I am Tucker Veach

I have been litigating commercial and securities matters since 1983. First in Houston, then in D.C., I had the opportunity to work with some of the nation’s most gifted leaders pinioned at the intersection of high finance and investment and legal thought. These lawyers included a former General Counsel at the SEC, whom I had the privilege of working for a number of years. I have represented clients in the finance and investment sphere for 20 years.

My focus in the area of investment disputes was triggered by a case that involved three elderly couples and an elderly widow who were defrauded by their highly trusted stockbroker. The experience broke their lives in so many ways; first financially, then socially, ultimately stealing their faith and hope. It was heart wrenching and intolerable. While working at two large law firms I was involved in cases concerning hundreds of millions of dollars, but handing a check representing the return of a substantial part of their investment losses to Mr. and Mrs. Bridgers (age 92 and 90) is still the most satisfying moment of my career.

My Qualifications and Activities

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Yale in 1975, and my law degree from Georgetown University School of Law in 1983. I attended the Hotchkiss School for high school, after which I spent a year at Malvern College in England as an English Speaking Union Scholar.

I am licensed to practice law in Texas, the District of Columbia, Tennessee, and North Carolina, as well as being admitted to represent clients before FINRA in SEC regulated arbitration nationwide. I practice law from my home base in the town of Asheville, nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, where I grew up and returned about 20 years ago.

I support and fundraise for Alzheimer’s research and caregiver support, as so many among us are challenged by this traumatic and always deadly disease. I am a dedicated supporter of the Cradle of Forestry, a 6500-acre heritage site near Asheville that was dedicated by Congress in 1968 to “preserve, develop and make available for future generations the birthplace of forestry and forestry education in America”. I am an active participant in pro bono programs, representing indigent individuals and employees when my experience and skills are required.

Because much of my practice takes place outside of Asheville, the enjoyment of travel has been a career-long benefit. I enjoy community theater, tennis, skiing, and golf; and a good book and glass of wine are favored pastimes.

Represented 375 investors in state and federal actions relating to a fraudulent leasing program, collecting over $7 million for the investors.

Class Action

Represented investor class in class action against a major law firm, collecting over $2.5 million.

Ponzi Schemes

Represented 60 individuals in an insurance Ponzi scheme and obtained a $9.5 million jury verdict.

Fraudulent Investment Offerings

Represented 47 individuals against a major Life Insurance company regarding a fraudulent investment offering, collecting over $5 million for the investors.

Premature Termination of Fund

Represented investor class in class action against mutual fund family regarding premature termination of a fund, collecting over $3 million for the investors.

Hundreds Represented

Represented hundreds of individuals in arbitration and court proceedings relating to investments, collecting over $30 million dollars for the investors.

Corporate SEC Investigations

Represented “Inc. 100” corporation in SEC investigation, threatened delisting by the NASDAQ and class action securities litigation.

Officer SEC Investigation

Represented former Chief Operating Officer of major corporation and his family in an investigation by the SEC.

SEC Investigations and International Corporations

Represented Canadian corporation in SEC investigation, threatened delisting by the American Stock Exchange and application to the NASDAQ Stock Market, Inc.

FDIC Representation

Represented the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation connected with the failure of a savings and loan associations, resulting in multimillion dollar judgments against culpable officers and directors.

FDIC Investigations

Conducted an extensive investigation of potential securities law violations in connection with the operation by a brokerage firm of a “covered call” options program for the savings and loan association.

Sale Contests

Represented a Fortune 100 company in an action contesting the sale of three $200 million vessels; the action proceeded simultaneously in administrative and judicial forums to a very successful negotiated settlement.

Government Agency Contracts

Litigated numerous cases involving contracts with government agencies, including several cases before the General Services Board of Contract Appeals.

Inventor IP

Represented the inventor of drug compounds that have received national attention in contract negotiations with the inventor’s research hospital and with pharmaceutical companies interested in obtaining licenses for the compounds.
